Return of
The Tom Smith Big Band

At Pizza Express Jazz Club, Dean St, Soho, London

Following their sensational sold-out Big Band Sunday Lunchtime Dean Street series launch in January, we had no hesitation inviting the Autumn return of the Tom Smith Big Band with their dynamic music. Tom Smith - a London based 26-year-old, saxophonist, bass clarinet, composer and band leader, brought this phenomenal big band to PizzaExpress Jazz Club in February 2023 for a Sunday Lunchtime concert for our discerning Dean Street audience. After that sold-out concert, the Tom Smith Big Band were chosen to open the 2023 EFG London Jazz Festival and again another sold out evening. And now two 2024 concerts at Dean Street.

Tom Smith was twice finalist of the BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year programme in 2014 and 2016, and in 2018 won the Peter Whittingham Development Award from Help Musicians UK. He released his debut album ‘Gecko’,in  2020.

Since finishing his degree at the Royal Academy of Music, Tom has performed and toured around the world and has brought his music to prestigious festivals and venues including the BBC Proms,  Love Supreme Festival, Jazzinec Festival (Czech Republic), and Generations Festival (Switzerland)

He appears with the Chris Ingham REBOP band playing the Cannonball Adderley inspired role in the “Miles in the 50’s” concerts and with the Tom Green Jazz Orchestra in the closing night LJF 2023 concert of Will Todd ‘s Choral Jazz.

Tom brings to this concert his original Big Band compositions and arrangements and whilst drawing on traditional big band voicing, he adds his distinctive and contemporary musical flavours that will make for an enjoyable and unique audience experience.

"Tom really brought it, he tore the house down’ ‘His original compositions were some of the best we heard all night" Julian Joseph
